Types of Laptop Batteries

Laptop is very useful to everyone and it is portable in size, you can take anywhere as you like. But, the major part in laptop is batteries. It is an unique module in a portable PC, which is not available in a desktop.

Expert says that the development of battery is not similar to the development of other devices. Without DC, the average run time of the battery is 2 to 3 hours maximum. See below the types of battery.

Different types of batteries are as follow :

Nickel Cadium Batteries (NiCads) : These days NiCads batteries are not found in modern laptop/portable computer. It is very heavy in weight and has short life. This NiCads batteries suffer from performance degradation due to its weakness. If you will put this battery to recharge and after having completed your recharge, it looses up to 40 percent of charge. For these reason it demands in a market falls and customer try to look for higher capacity batteries for their use.

Nickel Metal Hydride Batteries (NiMH) : NiMH battery launched to replace the NiCads batteries. This type of battery takes long time to recharge, gives 30 percent longer run time than NiCads and it is very expensive too. Some components in NiCads batteries are damaged by the environment while the NiMH doesn't contain those components and memory effect is not very high in this battery. This battery doesn't provide that much features as customer expected.
Lithium Ion Batteries (Li-ion) : At the present time we all use Latest type of Li-ion battery. Compared to those previous battery types, Li-ion battery has longer life and cannot be overchanged. It has more resistance to the memory effect and it more expensive. But to use this type of batteries, system should be specifically designed to use them. If you use this battery in old system which is only suitable for old batteries, it will cause serious damages like fire.
