Follow The steps to Encrypt a File or Folder :
- First, you have to open Windows Explorer.
- Then right-click the file or folder that you want to encrypt.
- After that click Properties.
- Then on the General tab, click Advanced.
- After that opt for the Encrypt contents to secure data check box.
But, before applying this procedure, first of all you have to check out whether your system volumes are in NTFS formats or not because encryption supports only NTFS file system not FAT 16 or FAT 32. You cannot encrypted files or folders which are compressed. If you do so, then your file or folder will be uncompressed. Suppose, if some files are marked with the System attribute then it cannot be encrypted nor can files in the system root directory structure.
At what time, you encrypt a single file, you will be asked that "if you want to encrypt the folder that contains it as well". If you select these options, then all files and sub folders that are added to the folder in the future will be encrypted when they are added.
When you encrypt a folder, you will be asked that "if you want your all files and sub folders within the folder to be encrypted as well". If you select this options then, all files and sub folders currently in the folder are encrypted, as well as any files and sub folders that are added to the folder in the future.
If you choose to encrypt the folder only, all files and sub folders currently in the folder are not encrypted. However, any files and sub folders that are added to the folder in the future are encrypted when they are added.
